Membership and Qualifications Board

The Board advises Council on Institute policy concerning the recruitment and retention of members and services and benefits provided to members. It determines the entry requirements for membership and for registration as a Chartered Physicist.

The Membership and Qualifications Board is delegated the following responsibilities and powers by the Council of the Institute

1. To develop the membership recruitment and retention strategy – working with other Boards of Council as appropriate - and the recommendation of strategy to Council for their consideration and agreement.
2. To develop policy in areas directly relevant to membership and qualifications– working with other Boards of Council as appropriate - and the recommendation of policy to Council for their consideration and agreement.
3. To develop and implement standards and procedures for application and election to all grades of membership
4. To develop and maintain standards and procedures for registration as Chartered Physicist
5. To advise on the Membership and Qualifications Programme of Activities to achieve the goals and strategy agreed by Council, working with other Boards of the Council as appropriate.
6. To advise on activities designed to promote diversity and inclusion within physics at all levels, working with other Boards of Council as appropriate
7. To appoint sub-committees
8. To act on behalf of the Institute with external qualification and licensing bodies.
9. Reporting to Council on the progress of the Membership and Qualifications Programme in delivering on the Strategy.
10. Any other specific delegated powers agreed by Council.

Length of Service of Board Members: Three years
