Liquids and Complex Fluids Early Career Award

Terms of reference
The prize is awarded biannually to an exceptional scientist, in the early stages of their career, working in the broadly defined area of Liquids and Complex Fluids. The winner will receive £200, a certificate and may be asked to give a lecture at a general meeting.

Eligibility
Those eligible for awards should be members of the group and should have made a substantial contribution to the development or reputation of physics in the UK or Ireland.

The Liquids and Complex Fluids Group committee defined “early career” as those individuals with no more than five years postdoctoral experience (allowing for career breaks) following the award of a PhD. Those who are currently paid employees of the Institute, members of Council and those under contract to the Institute are not eligible for awards.

The 2011 prize
The 2011 Liquids and Complex Fluids Group Prize was warded to Dr James Adams, Lecturer in the Department of Physics at the University of Surrey. The award was presented to him at the Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2011 conference held 13-15 December 2011 in Manchester. James Adams gave a special invited talk entitled “Transient shear banding in the Rolie-Poly model.
