Organisation and partners
The National HE STEM programme uses a hub and spoke model in order to increase cross-region engagement and nation-wide cohesion.
|
The University of Birmingham serves as the ‘hub’ of Programme activity. It is partnered with six ‘spokes’ or further Higher Education Institutes:
| Institution | Contact email address |
| The University of Bath (SW spoke) | hestem@bath.ac.uk |
| The University of Birmingham (Midlands and East Anglia spoke) | hestem@contacts.bham.ac.uk |
| The University of Bradford (NE spoke) | hestem@bradford.ac.uk |
| Manchester Metropolitan University (NW spoke) | hestem@mmu.ac.uk |
| The University of Southampton (SE spoke) | hestem@soton.ac.uk |
| Swansea University (Welsh spoke) | hestem@swan.ac.uk |
These spokes act as foci for regional activities, linking in and developing projects with other HEIs in their region. For more information about activity in your region please email your regional spoke.
Professional Body Involvement
The National HE STEM programme works with four professional bodies:
- The Institute of Physics
- The Royal Society of Chemistry
- The Royal Academy of Engineering
- A consortium of mathematical bodies, led by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications
History
The National STEM Programme builds upon the learning and research derived from the HEFEC funded Stimulating Physics pilot project that ran between 2006 and 2009. The National STEM Programme supports the embedding of the evidence-based good practice acquired from the Stimulating Physics pilot project. The schools-based strand of this project continues its work as the Stimulating Physics Network.
